The PLD reaches the ceiling for the first time in over two years
The PLD (Price for Settling differences or spot price) for the week of August 5 – 11 2017 reached the ceiling defined by Aneel, the National Electric Energy Agency, or R$ 533,82/MWh. The PLD is the same in all sub-markets. The last time it reached the ceiling was in June 2015, when the ceiling was R$ 388,48/MWh.
The main reason behind this increase is the more pessimistic flow forecasts in the National Integrated System (SIN). Furthermore, reservoir levels are down more than had been expected in the previous week.
The weekly PLD is influenced by hydro plant reservoir levels, forecast affluent natural energy and estimated use of energy across the country, among other factors.
